A Documentary Wedding at Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery | Windsor Wedding Photographer
Some wedding venues have great architecture. Others have incredible landscapes. Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery offers both.
Located just outside Amherstburg on the shores of Lake Erie, Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery combines rows of vineyards with its own private beach, creating one of the more unique wedding venues in this part of Ontario. It was the perfect place for this couple to bring their families together, with guests travelling from both Ontario and the United States to celebrate just a short drive from the border.
I first met the two of them last fall during their engagement session in Waterloo, something that's included with every Slate + Flash wedding package. Beyond creating meaningful photographs of the couple, engagement sessions are an opportunity for us to get to know each other before the wedding day. By their June wedding, we already had casual familiarity, and I knew their wedding would be relaxed, thoughtful, and full of genuine moments.
One of the things they appreciated most about my documentary approach was that it allowed them to be fully present with their family and friends. Rather than building a long portrait session into the schedule, we kept formal photographs quick and efficient, leaving lots of time for hugs, conversations, laughter, and all the moments that make a wedding feel like a wedding.
The weather couldn't have been better. Under a cloudless June sky, guests gathered outside overlooking Lake Erie as the couple exchanged their vows. The setting was spectacular, but as always, it was the people who made the photographs memorable.
As the evening unfolded, they chose to sneak away for just a few minutes at sunset before returning to the celebration. The light at the beach was beautiful, giving us a handful of relaxed portraits without taking them away from their guests for long. It perfectly reflected the priorities they had set for the day: meaningful photographs, but even more meaningful time spent celebrating with the people they love.
From start to finish, the entire wedding was exceptionally well organized. The team at Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery kept everything running smoothly, allowing the couple to stay present and simply enjoy the day. It's an impressive venue, and one I'd happily recommend to any couple looking for a vineyard wedding in Southwestern Ontario.
To this wonderful couple, thank you again for trusting me to document your wedding day. You and your families were an absolute joy to work with from our engagement session through to your celebration. It was a privilege to capture the beginning of this next chapter, and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.
If you're planning a wedding in Windsor, Toronto, or anywhere across Southwestern Ontario and you're looking for photography that captures the day as it naturally unfolds, I'd love to connect and hear your story.
