the eye behind sLATE + fLASH

Before I became a full-time photographer, I was the guy carrying a camera everywhere — finding great light and small human moments for over 25 years. It was a passion long before it was a profession.

In 2023, I launched my first photography business— Black Vine Photography — focused on documentary-style family sessions in Toronto. I fell in love with the way this approach honours real life: no poses, no perfection, just connection.

Two years later, that experiment turned into a successful business with 70+ five-star Google reviews, award-winning images and a stream of returning clients who trust me to document their family stories.

That experience became the foundation for Slate + Flash; an elevated photography experience for couples and creatives.

Slate + Flash

A new Chapter

In 2025, I expanded into couples, weddings, and creative portraits — combining documentary storytelling with a new creative skill set, elevated compositions, and more intentional editing.

Training with (and continuing to be inspired by) great photographers like Sam Hurd, Jason Vinson, and Two Mann Studios shaped how I use light and how I craft images that feel intentional without being staged.

From that approach came Slate + Flash — photography for modern couples and creatives who want art with honesty, delivered through an elevated, white-glove experience.

Two people in a kiss under a large, geometric, golden ceiling with vertical lights.

Slate + Flash exists for clients who care about the experience as much as the art.

Photography should feel effortless — not staged, rushed, or transactional. That’s why I built a model around low volume and high touch:

• One photographer from inquiry → photo session → gallery
• Thoughtful planning (light, timing, locations)
• Documentary style shoots - letting you be yourselves
• No outsourcing - all editing done in house
• Full galleries delivered in two weeks

This is white-glove photography — intentionally small, deliberately considered, and designed to serve real people, not volume targets.

To keep it that way, I photograph a maximum of 10 weddings per year.
