I've been the guy with a camera for as long as I can remember. More than 25 years of chasing light and small human moments, long before anyone paid me to.
In 2023, I started Black Vine Photography to photograph families the way they really are: messy, loud and wonderful. It became something I'm proud of, with 80+ five-star Google reviews, award-winning images, and families who keep coming back.
Along the way I learned that people relax when you stop asking them to perform. That's true at a kitchen table, and it's even truer at a wedding.
That's Slate + Flash: the same honest, documentary approach, for your wedding. I stay close, but out of the way, and make sure you get to enjoy your own day.

Slate + Flash exists for clients who care about the experience as much as the art.
I keep my wedding calendar small on purpose. I photograph no more than ten weddings a year, so every couple gets my full attention.
That means one photographer from your first message to your final gallery. I'll help you plan around light, timing, and locations, then stay out of the way on the day so you can be yourselves. I edit everything myself, nothing is outsourced, and you'll have your full gallery within two weeks.
It's a smaller way to run a business, but it's the one that lets me do this well.
