High Park Summer Engagement Session

Summer evenings in High Park have a way of slowing things down. Warm light, long shadows, and just enough breeze to keep the pathways busy. For this couple, the park carried extra meaning — they used to live in the neighbourhood, so returning for their engagement session felt like revisiting a piece of their shared history.

We met in the early evening and photographed through the hour before sunset, using only natural light. They were relaxed and comfortable together, and the rhythm of the session followed suit. We started near Grenadier Café, then made our way down toward the ponds, stopping at different points along the way whenever the light or setting felt right. Often, I let them walk ahead and enjoy the space while I photographed from a distance.

We wrapped beneath one of High Park’s old cedar-like giants — its branching structure creating a natural frame against the late-day greenery — before looping back through the Japanese gardens to finish the session.

Engagement sessions are included with every wedding package at Slate + Flash. They give couples a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and experience documentary-style coverage before the wedding day, and they give me a strong sense of how two people move and interact — something that always pays off once the big day arrives.
