Fall Engagement Session at the University of Toronto

There’s something special about photographing couples in places that hold real meaning, and this fall engagement session at the University of Toronto was exactly that. Both partners are students here, so the campus wasn’t just a backdrop — it was part of their story.

We began in the centre of campus just before dusk, with open views of the skyline and the CN Tower rising in the distance. From there, we wandered through walkways and courtyards, stopping wherever the light felt right — under archways, beneath turning trees, and in pockets where the long fall shadows stretched across the paths.

As the afternoon shifted into evening, the light softened and the campus grew quieter. We finished the natural-light portion of the session as the last of the sun dipped behind the buildings, giving us a mix of warm tones and cooler late-day colour.

Once the sun set, we moved up to Bloor Street for a completely different mood. The bright storefront signs, streetlights, and traffic added energy and contrast, and we used off-camera flash to create a set of more cinematic, creative images to round out the session.

The entire shoot followed a documentary approach — moving naturally through familiar spaces, giving light direction when needed, and letting the environment and time of day shape the images.

If you’re thinking about engagement photos in a place that holds meaning for you — whether it’s a campus, a neighbourhood, or a favourite street — I’d love to help you create something personal, honest, and creatively driven.
